Psalm 19 – 22

(text)

[Psalm 19]

How clearly the sky reveals God’s glory!
    How plainly it shows what he has done!
Each day announces it to the following day;
    each night repeats it to the next.
No speech or words are used,
    no sound is heard;
yet their message goes out to all the world
    and is heard to the ends of the earth.

Amen – no excuses (Romans 1:20).

[Psalm 20]

May the Lord answer you when you are in trouble!
    May the God of Jacob protect you!
…
May he give you what you desire
    and make all your plans succeed.
Then we will shout for joy over your victory
    and celebrate your triumph by praising our God.
May the Lord answer all your requests.

May that always be my response, O Lord (Romans 12:15) – especially during those moments where are feel you are blessing others instead of me.

[Psalm 21]

His glory is great because of your help;
    you have given him fame and majesty.

May my glory (little as it is – I hesitate to even use the word!) be manifested in others (John 17:10).

[Psalm 22]

My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?

Matthew 27:46. Thank you, Jesus (Isaiah 53:7-8).

All who see me make fun of me;
    they stick out their tongues and shake their heads.
“You relied on the Lord,” they say.
    “Why doesn’t he save you?
If the Lord likes you,
    why doesn’t he help you?”

Matthew 27:42. Thank you Jesus – for not stepping off the cross.

An evil gang is around me;
    like a pack of dogs they close in on me;
    they tear at my hands and feet.
All my bones can be seen.
    My enemies look at me and stare.
They gamble for my clothes
    and divide them among themselves.

John 19:23-24. It’s as if David was there at the cruxifiction some 2000 years later.

I will tell my people what you have done…

Back to life (John 20:26-29)! And life for us (Romans 6:4-5). Thank you, Lord.
