Job 11:1 – 13:12

[Sofar 1; Job 1c1]

(text)

You claim that what you say is true;
    you claim you are pure in the sight of God.

What Job said was in, in fact, true (Job 1:8).

How I wish God would answer you!

How people love to proclaim this loud and clear but the reality quite often proves to be quite different (Job 42:7).

Your life will be brighter than sunshine at noon,
    and life’s darkest hours will shine like the dawn.

Sofar takes up the same discourse as his two friends only he is less chatty… 😊

[Job 1c1]

Yes, you are the voice of the people.
    When you die, wisdom will die with you.

Job kicks in with some biting sacarsm. 😁

You have no troubles, and yet you make fun of me;
    you hit someone who is about to fall.

Unfortunately this is often the case. Better to remain silent.

Even my friends laugh at me now… You cover up your ignorance with lies;
    you are like doctors who can’t heal anyone.

May I rather be a solid support for others, Father.

Do you think your lies will benefit God?
Are you trying to defend him?
    Are you going to argue his case in court?

Lord, may I always be a true and faithful witness!

Even though your prejudice is hidden,
    he will reprimand you,
    and his power will fill you with terror.
Your proverbs are as useless as ashes;
    your arguments are as weak as clay.

Free me from my hidden prejudices, Lord, so that I may speak truth faithfully.
