1 Chronicles 11:26 – 13:14

These are the other outstanding soldiers:… Zelek from Ammon… Uriah the Hittite…

David atracted a diverse group – even foreigners! The name of Uriah is buried in the list – unlike in 2 Samuel 23:39.

…soldiers from the tribe of Manasseh went over to David’s side… when he was… sent… back to Ziklag. …they were all outstanding soldiers.”

You send encouragement when we need it most, Father (1 Samuel 30:1-6). You know what we truly need (Matthew 6:7-8).

All these soldiers, ready for battle, went to Hebron, determined to make David king over all Israel. All the rest of the people of Israel were united in the same purpose. They spent three days there with David, feasting on the food and drink which their relatives had prepared for them. …All this was an expression of the joy that was felt throughout the whole country.

Utopia – a bit like Acts 2:46-47 that people would look fondly back on. How far one day Israel would fall (2 Kings 21:16).

King David consulted with all the officers in command of units of a thousand men and units of a hundred men. Then he announced to all the people of Israel, “If you give your approval and if it is the will of the Lord our God, let us… go and get God’s Covenant Box, which was ignored while Saul was king.” The people were pleased with the suggestion and agreed to it.

May I be disciplined in my consultation with others, Lord.

…they brought out the Covenant Box and put it on a new cart. Uzzah and Ahio guided the cart… As they came to the threshing place of Chidon, the oxen stumbled, and Uzzah reached out and took hold of the Covenant Box. At once the Lord became angry with Uzzah and killed him for touching the Box. He died there in God’s presence

The way was closed (Hebrews 9:8). Open wide the gates, Lord God (Hebrews 10:19-23)!

…the Covenant Box… stayed there three months, and the Lord blessed Obed Edom’s family and everything that belonged to him.

I have lacked for nothing, Father (Psalm 23:1). You have protected me all these years (Job 1:10). I do pray that I will be useful to you.
