This is the list of David’s famous soldiers. Together with the rest of the people of Israel, they helped him become king, as the Lord had promised, and they kept his kingdom strong.
May I do the same for your kingdom, Lord.
First was Jashobeam of the clan of Hachmon, the leader of “The Three.” He fought with his spear against three hundred men and killed them all in one battle.
Here we start David’s story with his most famous soldiers while in 2 Samuel it was rather the ending (2 Samuel 23:8-39) – which says a lot about the priorities of each. How what we value changes through time! One thing that never changes is the value of courage. May I be courageous, Father (Joshua 1:9).
…Eleazar… was in a barley field when the Israelites started to run away, so he and his men took a stand in the middle of the field and fought the Philistines. The Lord gave him a great victory.
May I also be someone who stands firmly in the gap, Lord (Ezekiel 22:30).
