Finally Job broke the silence and cursed the day on which he had been born.
We can only stay silent for so long. Between the shock of Job 1:13 – 2:10 and the visit of his three friends (Job 2:11-13), there is actually quite a bit of time that transpires (Job 30). That is the surprising time where grief bites the hardest, where one day is like the next in an endless repetition of futility (Deuteronomy 28:67).
Tell the sorcerers to curse that day,
those who know how to control Leviathan.
The great dragon (Revelation 12:3). Sorcerers appear very infrequently (Daniel 2:1-3). Magiciens?
…sleeping like the kings and rulers
who rebuilt ancient palaces.
Then I would be sleeping like princes
who filled their houses with gold and silver,
“Mission Impossible.” 😊
Why did my mother hold me on her knees? …Why let people go on living in misery? Why give light to those in grief…?
“Why” – asked 24 times in this book without a response (Job 33:12-13)!
In the grave wicked people stop their evil,
and tired workers find rest at last.
Even prisoners enjoy peace,
free from shouts and harsh commands.
Everyone is there, the famous and the unknown,
and slaves at last are free.
1 Samuel 28:12-15. We wait for our deliverance (Romans 8:19-23).
Everything I fear and dread comes true.
Ouch.
Job, will you be annoyed if I speak?
I can’t keep quiet any longer.
Eliphaz is clearly the leader of this group of three. The reality, however, is that there was no doubt a large gathering here listening (Job 32:1-2).
