Psalm 39 – 44

(text)

[Psalm 39]

How short you have made my life!
    In your sight my lifetime seems nothing.
Indeed every living being is no more than a puff of wind,
    no more than a shadow.

I am ever aware of this, Lord (Isaiah 40:6-7).

[Psalm 40]

You do not want sacrifices and offerings;
    you do not ask for animals burned whole on the altar
    or for sacrifices to take away sins.
Instead, you have given me ears to hear you,
    and so I answered, “Here I am;
    your instructions for me are in the book of the Law.[c]
How I love to do your will, my God!”

Thank you, Jesus (Hebrews 10:5-7).

[Psalm 41]

Even my best friend, the one I trusted most,
    the one who shared my food,
    has turned against me.

Judas (John 13:18).

[Psalm 42]

As a deer longs for a stream of cool water,
    so I long for you, O God.
I thirst for you, the living God.

Thank you for the love I have for you that you’ve put in my heart, o God.

[Psalm 43]

Why am I so troubled?
I will put my hope in God,
    and once again I will praise him,
    my savior and my God.

May I sing a new song (Psalm 98:1).

[Psalm 44]

Wake up, Lord! Why are you asleep?
    Rouse yourself…

It does seem like that often. Intervene, Lord.
