1 Kings 4:1-*

(text)

Solomon was king of all Israel… The people of Judah and Israel were as numerous as the grains of sand on the seashore; they ate and drank, and were happy. …As long as he lived, the people throughout Judah and Israel lived in safety, each family with its own grapevines and fig trees.

The golden epoch for those who came later, looking back with nostalgia and regret (Psalm 137:1-6). Will we be looking back at our time now in the same way?

Solomon appointed twelve men as district governors in Israel. …Besides these twelve, there was one governor over the whole land.

This organizational structure is a first, I believe – but certainly not the last (Daniel 6:1-3).

Solomon’s kingdom included all the nations from the Euphrates River to Philistia and the Egyptian border. They paid him taxes and were subject to him all his life.

These little nations would one day dwarf and dominate Israel (Jonas 3:1-3)…

Solomon ruled over all the land west of the Euphrates River… All the kings west of the Euphrates were subject to him, and he was at peace with all the neighboring countries.

The peace that comes with wisdom. How that is lacking in our day!

God gave Solomon unusual wisdom and insight, and knowledge too great to be measured. …Kings all over the world heard of his wisdom and sent people to listen to him.

You are not stingy when it comes to giving to your beloved, Father (1 Kings 3:10-14; Ephesians 3:20-21). Open the windows of heaven once again (Malachi 3:10). Open wide your Kingdom (Matthew 22:9-10).
