1 Samuel 23:19 – 24:4

(verses)

Some people from Ziph went to Saul at Gibeah and said, “David is hiding out in our territory… We know, Your Majesty, how much you want to capture him; so come to our territory, and we will make sure that you catch him.”

Never a lack of opportunists and those who would seek to ingratiate themselves to those in power (2 Samuel 1:1-10).

Saul answered, “May the Lord bless you for being so kind to me!”

Beware those who wear their religion out on their sleeve…

“Go and make sure once more; find out for certain where he is and who has seen him there. I hear that he is very cunning.”

Saul speaks as if he is the innocent and David the treacherous / devious one! God is not mocked (Psalm 18:26-27). 😊

Saul and his men were on one side of the hill, separated from David and his men, who were on the other side. They were hurrying to get away from Saul and his men, who were closing in on them and were about to capture them.

Psalm 63. Saul was not doubt planning to capture David and kill him after putting on a mock trial – much like the High Priest would later do with Jesus (John 18:19-24). Once again, all with the intent to keep up appearances.

Just then a messenger arrived and said to Saul, “Come back at once! The Philistines are invading the country!”

So Saul stopped pursuing David and went to fight the Philistines. That is why that place is called Separation Hill.

Rescued from an unexpected source! Thank God for the “coincidences” of the “just then…” 😊There is always hope with you, Father.

…David was in the wilderness near Engedi. …east of Wild Goat Rocks.

When we’re talking about “Bouquetins” (French translation), we’re talking about sheer cliffs that take your breath away! Make me to walk on those high places, Lord (Habakkuk 3:18-19).

…Saul… came to a cave… and went in to relieve himself. It happened to be the very cave in which David and his men were hiding far back in the cave.

Psalm 57. Another incredible “it happened to be…” 😊. How much easier it would have been for David to be invisible if he wasn’t accompanied by all his men. But he never chose what was easy – at least until 1 Samuel 27:1-4.
