1 Samuel 17:37b – 45

(verses)

“All right,” Saul answered. “Go, and the Lord be with you.”

Saul doesn’t get enough credit here! He discerned that the hand of God was with David and gave him free reign, much like Pharaoh did with Joseph (Genesis 41:37-43). How frustrating it must have been for Saul to see that what came naturally to David, he had to proceed as if memorizing lines for a part in a play that was not destined for him.

He gave his own armor to David for him to wear… but… he took it all off.

May I stand ever ready with all the armor you provide for us, Father (Ephesians 6:14-17).

He took his shepherd’s stick and then picked up five smooth stones from the stream and put them in his bag. With his sling ready, he went out to meet Goliath.

How I admire his courage! May I attack the oppotunities before me, Lord, just like David and Jonathan (1 Samuel 14:4-15).

The Philistine started walking toward David, with his shield bearer walking in front of him. He kept coming closer, and when he got a good look at David, he was filled with scorn for him because he was just a nice, good-looking boy. He said to David, “What’s that stick for? Do you think I’m a dog?”

😊 May I never let words discourage me from moving forward, Lord. May I always press forward with actions.

David answered, “You are coming against me with sword, spear, and javelin…”

Proverbs 21:31. This text also brings to mind Luke 22:52-53.

“…but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the Israelite armies, which you have defied.”

I come armed with what exactly? And do I react the same way when your name is defied, Lord? May I come and come armed with your name. Please continue to transform me.
