1 Samuel 14:1 – 13

(verses)

“Let’s cross over to the camp of those heathen Philistines. Maybe the Lord will help us; if he does, nothing can keep him from giving us the victory, no matter how few of us there are.”

I love his attitude! It incarnates faith. Help me to apply that attitude every day Lord, anticipating the opportunities.

“Whatever you want to do, I’m with you.”

Please give me men like that, Lord. At the same time, I’d be afraid of leading them to their ruin. If it’s only about me…

“The priest carrying the ephod was Ahijah…”

“We will go across and let the Philistines see us. If they tell us to wait for them to come to us, then we will stay where we are. But if they tell us to go to them, then we will, because that will be the sign that the Lord has given us victory over them.”

Very interesting. Jonathan has the opportunity to consult God (i.e., the ephod) but didn’t. Instead of that, he trusted that God would guide via the response of his enemies where no possibility was entertained for retreating. Make me to be like him, Father!

“Come on up here! We have something to tell you!”

“Follow me. The Lord has given Israel victory over them.”

For Jonathan, it was between the Lord and the people – he erased himself from the equation (Genesis 41:16; Daniel 2:27-28). I am so far from that, Father! Transforme-me please.

Jonathan attacked the Philistines and knocked them down, and the young man killed them.

Teamwork. 😊
