1 Kings 3:5 – 9

(text)

On one occasion he went to Gibeon to offer sacrifices because that was where the most famous altar was. He had offered hundreds of burnt offerings there in the past.

The original from the times of Moses (1 Chronicles 21:28-22:1). Times change though. May I ever remember the past but never hold on to it.

That night the Lord appeared to him in a dream…

Oh that you would appear to me in this way, Lord! Ah, but that is a double-edged sword (1 Kings 11:9-10)…

…and asked him, “What would you like me to give you?”

That you would use me, Father. That I truly participate in what you are doing in the world. That you would be proud of me. Luke 19:16-17.

Solomon answered, “You always showed great love for my father David, your servant, and he was good, loyal, and honest in his relation with you. And you have continued to show him your great and constant love…

May the same be said of me, Lord! Thank you for you continually showing me your great and constant love.

“O Lord God, you have let me succeed my father as king…”

“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” – Mark Twain

You have created me for a purpose, Father. What is it? Lead me along the path that you have already traced out for me (Psalm 27:11).

“…I am very young and don’t know how to rule.”

As for me, may I not be too old and weakened to accomplish what you have for me, Lord. Remember how fleeting my life is on this earth (Isaiah 40:7).

“So give me the wisdom I need to rule your people with justice and to know the difference between good and evil. Otherwise, how would I ever be able to rule this great people of yours?”

What to ask? May the Spirit plead on my behalf, Father (Romans 8:26-27).
